Workshop on Risk Management in Volunteer Programs

Risk Management for Volunteer Programs will explore some of the legal and policy issues  nonprofits must address when they have volunteers.  Co-sponsored by Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County and Directors of Volunteers in Agencies (DOVIA) San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles chapters, this two-hour free workshop will cover everything from what safety tests (such as screening for TB) a volunteer might be required to take, to responsibilities a nonprofit has for preventing sexual harrassment of volunteers.  A lively panel format will be used with much time available for Q&A, and the speakers will be volunteer management and legal experts – Victoria Garcia of Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, Nancy Olson of Volunteer Los Angeles, Caron Smith of Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, and Megan Vixie of Beach Cities Health District.  The workshop will provide participants with resource materials, including several volunteer risk management handbooks, and refreshments also will be offered.  The workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 4-6 pm at 13327 Van Nuys Blvd., Pacoima.  For more information and to register, contact VNR Project Coordinator Julaine Konselman at 818/990-0176 or julainehiri@aol.com.
